New York Market Radio (NYMRAD) is the voice of the radio industry in the New York Market. Its members include the major radio stations, station representatives, and radio networks that comprise the industry. One of NYMRAD’s many goals is the development of radio’s leaders for the future. As a result, we created the NYMRAD Scholarship Fund, to provide assistance for the education of students who have chosen radio as their career.
Junior and senior students from colleges around the NY metro are encouraged to apply for the award. Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements:
- The student must be a declared communications major, with an expressed interest in pursuing a radio career.
- The student will be offered and must accept a paid internship with a New York Market radio station each year he or she receives the scholarship.
- The student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for both his/her freshman and sophomore years and must maintain such minimum average while receiving the scholarship.
- The student’s permanent residence must be in the New York metropolitan area as reflected in the application for admission to college.
The Scholarship Fund Committee is responsible for reviewing applications. The Committee personally interviews several candidates. Once the committee unanimously agrees upon two candidates and NYMRAD researches each student’s background, a $3,000 scholarship is granted to the student by sending a check to his/her respective university/college.
