>Back to Research/Results Page95.5 WPLJ’s morning hosts, Scott Shannon and Todd Pettengill, broadcasted their final show of 2009 from Blythedale Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, New York on Monday, December 21st from 6am-10am. This marked the 18th Annual “Holiday Spectacular” Party hosted at Blythedale. One area that seems consistent even is tough economic times in philanthropic efforts. New York Market Radio is a compelling medium that motivates people to act, volunteer, donate money to non profits and helping out the community.
The children, their parents and hospital employees were all in the audience as the ‘PLJ staff provided live “Holiday” entertainment and cheer. Scheduled performances were Rob Thomas of Matchbox, Jason Mraz and Holiday Express.
Blythedale is the only hospital in New York State exclusively devoted to caring for children with a wide range of medical problems, resulting from injury or disease, which are amenable to various rehabilitation services. The broadcast/auction raised over $360,000 for the Hospital. Among this year’s items available in the Scott & Todd Rock ‘n’ Roll Auction were: Lunch with Rob Thomas, “a 1-year pass for all ‘PLJ Up Close & Personal and ‘PLJ Acoustic Café 2010 Concerts, VIP tickets for the 2010 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, “DJ For The Day” with the Scott & Todd “Big Show”, tickets to a sold out Bon Jovi Concert at The New Meadowlands Stadium along with a special Meet & Greet with Richie Sambora and their chance to pick-up one of a kind collectibles such as autographed guitars by John Mayer, American Idol’s Adam Lambert and Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi, plus sports memorabilia and more!
Donations for the event come from various volunteers (non-profit) such as The Girl Scouts, Families of the Children at Blythedale Children’s Hospital, Local shops, Westchester Marriot Hotel, The Larchmont Fire Dept, Trans Siberian Orchestra and donations from ‘PLJ Listeners bidding on auction items or contributing by sending a donation check. The list of giving is endless.
Previous years’ highlights included performances by Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty, John Mayer, Jon Bon Jovi, Elliott Yamin, Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates, Dave Matthews, Barenaked Ladies, Pat Monahan of Train, Jason Mraz, Ingrid Michaelson, Sara Bareilles, Tony Bennett, Jewel, Jose Feliciano, Natalie Merchant, Vanessa Williams, Meat Loaf, Cyndi Lauper, Deborah Gibson, and Darlene Love.
WPLJ encouraged listeners to call-in donations to benefit the hospital. Contributions & bids were accepted throughout the day Monday, December 21, 2009 from 6am-9:45am.
